Matt is an experienced industrial relations and employment lawyer with over eight years of experience across both State and Federal Government and the private sector. Matt brings strong understanding of Government industrial relations. Matt also brings legal experience having provided providing legal advice and representation across both individual and collective industrial disputes.

Key Experience

Matt has strong understanding of Government industrial relations, having previously managed internal employee and industrial relations functions within State Government entities. This includes experience providing strategic advice on employment matters, enterprise bargaining, workforce policy, legislative compliance and stakeholder engagement.

Prior to joining Peak Services Legal, Matt led workforce policy development, bargaining support and remuneration policy implementation across large and complex public sector environments. He has represented government agencies before industrial tribunals and in negotiations with unions.

Matt also has experience working as an employment lawyer, providing legal representation and strategic advice across unfair dismissal matters, enterprise bargaining, workplace investigations, general protections claims and employment-related litigation.

Matt has been involved in the following matters:

  • Negotiation of Certified Agreements on behalf of the State of Queensland.
  • Successfully defending the State of Queensland with respect to Public Sector Appeals in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.
  • Representation of private enterprises in individual employee applications and industrial disputes.
  • Representation of the Commonwealth Government before the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal.
  • Management of the implementation of the Australian Government Public Sector Workplace Relations Policy 2023.
  • Investigation of contraventions of the Fair Work Act, on behalf of the Federal Government.
